The brush of your hand across my shoulder
Sends fire into my cheeks, burning away
My confidence, waning as the sun over the horizon.
I would chase you until morning
Dazzled as the night brightens your strawberry hair
Undone by the moonlight framing hazel eyes that
Always smile against a masterpiece rendered
In countenance, sublime in its glowing reflection.
Let my love rest beside your form, holding
Tightly your features till dawn snatches
You from my grasp, and memory dreams
Along the snarling contours of day.
I await the night and the fragrance preceding your touch.
All my dreams rise on thermals
Unhindered in the waning sun
Seeking a fresh perch for the night.
Its beauty keeps them aloft
Silver beams streak like towers of pure light
Reflected and filtered by the moon.
They lay down tracks to usher in
Milky Way and her sister Andromeda,
Their diamond gowns shimmering as life itself.
When the last chariot to heaven left
The light ahead dazzled us.
From all our childhood dreams bereft
Earth faded, a broken truss.
Left with dim and broken valleys,
Soft breaches and blind alleys.
There is no one here to pass the time.
No riddle to solve, no rhyme.
The clock is stuck at half past the hour.
No light, no sound, no power.
Even the clouds cover the day.
No children go out to play.
Chill passes through the earth
In that moment where the sun
Escapes behind the horizon,
A thrill of anticipation
That starlight brings
When earth’s denizens
Find the oases of quiet darkness
And gaze upon the glory of the sky.
The soft trill of rustling leaves
Or grassy stems bristling in the night
Echo, in their way, the starsong,
Quietly rumbling across space and time,
Speaking a sublime language meant
For ears attuned and listening
With hearts willing to hear
The message hidden among its static notes.
Love is wonder
Intrinsic and powerful
Mysterious in its most
The light inside the shade
I am under
Love hides in secret
Likes seeds planted
In the desert, waiting
For drought’s end
Rain’s nourishing shower
Brings an infinite, colorful palette
Love never leaves us
Lying in our graves
Content for dust to settle
And dim the glory of our lives
Lived under the shade
Before the light luminous
Love lives in thunder
And the cricket’s chirp
Amidst the patter of soft rain
Soaking through soil to thirsty roots
While clouds part like theater curtains
Unveiling the scope of the Master’s love
